Getting started

Signed installers are on the way. Until then, Tango Backup ships as a single program you run directly.

Windows
  1. Double-click the downloaded .exe. If Windows SmartScreen says it doesn't recognise the app yet, choose More info and then Run anyway.
  2. Tango Backup opens its setup screen in your browser. Follow it, and write down your 24-word recovery phrase.
  3. To start Tango automatically when you log in, open Command Prompt in the download folder and run tango-backup-v0.0.0-windows-amd64.exe service install (or the ARM64 file name).
macOS
  1. Open Terminal and allow the downloaded file to run:
    cd ~/Downloads
    chmod +x tango-backup-v0.0.0-darwin-*
    xattr -d com.apple.quarantine tango-backup-v0.0.0-darwin-*
  2. Start it with ./tango-backup-v0.0.0-darwin-arm64 (or -amd64 on an Intel Mac). Setup opens in your browser. Write down your 24-word recovery phrase.
  3. To start Tango automatically when you log in, run the same command followed by service install.
Linux
  1. Install the program for your user:
    mkdir -p ~/.local/bin
    install -m 755 ~/Downloads/tango-backup-v0.0.0-linux-amd64 ~/.local/bin/tango-backup
(use linux-arm64 on ARM machines such as a Raspberry Pi).
  2. Run tango-backup. Setup opens in your browser. Write down your 24-word recovery phrase.
  3. Run tango-backup service install to start it at login with a systemd user service.

On a headless server, start it with --no-browser and open the address it prints. Run tango-backup ui at any time to open the interface again, or tango-backup status for a health summary in the terminal.
